All files available on Filter Foundry are royalty free, meaning they can be used:
- With no limits on time
- With no limits on copies
- With no limits on geographical location
Files available on Fotolia can be used on all kinds of media:
- Web
- Website and blog illustration
- Creation of newsletters, banners, icons...
- Creation of all kinds of professional digital documents (ex : slide show presentations)
- Creation of templates (websites or others) intended for resale (extended licenses)
- Creation of advertising media (magazines, booklets, billboards...)
- Magazines and press article illustration
- Posters and other kinds of decorations for resale (extended licenses)
- Creation of all kinds of professional printed documents
- Video
- Illustrations on TV shows, TV advertising...
- Movie illustrations or decorations

The license required depends on how the file will be used:
- Standard License
- Files: images and illustrations in JPEG format
- Use: illustration of all kinds of professional documents (advertising, press articles, product packaging, websites)
- Check the image size to verify it matches your needs, standard licenses are from XS (0.12 MP) to XXL (15+ MP).
- Extended License
- Files: images and illustrations in JPEG format
- Use: illustration of derivative products intended for resale (postcards, posters, t-shirts, templates)
- The image provided for an extended license is the biggest size that we have available.
- Premium License
- Files: the same as standard license
- Use: the same as standard license
- The file provided with a premium license is the largest file size available.
- Vector License
- Files: vector files come in AI, EPS or SVG format
- Use: the same as standard license
- Vector files may be enlarged or made smaller without any quality loss.
- Vector Extended License
- Files: vector files come in AI, EPS or SVG format
- Use: illustration of derivative products intended for resale (postcards, posters, t-shirts, templates)
- Vector files can be enlarged or made smaller without any quality loss.

How to measure DPI for print
Large prints are generally viewed at distances greater than 3 feet. Thus, the Dot Per Inch (DPI) can be less than 300 DPI, depending on the distance between the image and the viewer. For example, an image which will be seen at a distance greater than 3 feet can be 100 DPI without any quality loss.

All files available on Fotolia must comply with the following rules:
- Files must not be used in a way that places any person in the photo or the author in a bad light or depicts them in a way that they may find offensive (pornography, violence)
- Files must not be used to support political parties or religious organizations
- For security reasons, in a web use, files must not be displayed in a size bigger than 640x480 pixels
